Editor's Note

Volume II began by looking past the shell and towards Venus herself.

Her face in Botticelli’s painting has an almost impossible softness to it: luminous skin, flushed pinks, a kind of beauty that seems entirely unaware of being observed. Those colours became the starting point for this edition: blush lace, pale ribbons and little flashes of gold.
If the original Venus was about her arrival from the sea, Volume II is the close-up.
